Nigerian Streamer Peller Alleges Police Assault During Routine Stop in Lekki
Popular Nigerian streamer and content creator, Peller, has taken to social media to share a disturbing experience involving a Nigerian police officer in Lagos State.
According to the 20-year-old, born Habeeb Hamzat, he was returning from Ikorodu when he was stopped at a police checkpoint in Lekki. He complied with the officers' request to open his car boot but began recording the situation out of caution.
Peller said one of the officers suddenly punched him in the face after seeing him recording the scene. The shocking event was partially captured in a video he posted to his Instagram page.
“I was coming back from Ikorodu and this happened in Lekki. I brought out my phone just in case… next thing he punched me in the face,” he said.
He further revealed that after the incident, other officers at the scene recognized him and said: “He didn’t know it was you.” This statement sparked concern, as Peller questioned how ordinary citizens might be treated in such situations.
The video quickly went viral, generating outrage among fans and Nigerians online. While some criticized Peller for recording the officers, the majority condemned the unprovoked attack and demanded accountability.
Legit.ng, Asiwaju Media, and Nairaland Forum have all verified the incident and reported matching details from the scene.
This event has reignited discussions on police brutality, misconduct, and the need for reform within the Nigerian police force.
