A heartbreaking incident has shocked both Nigerian and Canadian communities as a 63-year-old woman, visiting Canada for Omugwo (postnatal care), was allegedly stabbed to death by her son-in-law.

According to multiple reports, the suspect — identified as 36-year-old Lucky Ogbejielele — attacked his mother-in-law and seriously injured his wife in their home in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, on July 1, 2025. Their two young children were unharmed.

Police say Lucky fled the scene but was later arrested in a nearby forest with self-inflicted injuries. He now faces charges including second-degree murder, attempted murder, forcible confinement, and choking.

This devastating event has sparked renewed conversations about mental health, domestic violence, and the safety of women — even in situations meant to bring joy, like welcoming a new baby.
